For anyone that might have known him, Ron Guevara was executed over a basketball game Monday in Southwest Detroit. It's incredibly fucked up, but the story is here.

Also, there was a murder/suicide in the Springs on Monday. A husband killed his wife and himself with their 4 kids in the house. She was only 26 and the oldest kid was 9. That story is here and here.

What a crazy ass day. Sometimes this stuff hits too close to home...

A couple of articles from The News Herald:

Teen collapses & dies on basketball court

Wareing, Racho & Johnson to close

I have a brother & a sister that go to Wareing and I know my family is pretty upset by this news. My dad bought the house he did JUST SO THE KIDS COULD WALK TO SCHOOL. This screws him and a lot of other people in similar situations. I also heard that Taylor got bussing back to high school students, is that true?

Stuff for Sale
I do apologize for the pimping of my wares, but I want to get rid of this stuff. And it's free, as in beer.

I put up a post on Detroit Craigslist to try and get rid of some things cluttering my apartment.

Leave a message on here or e-mail me through Craigslist if you want any of the three items.

Trolley's and Stop Lights
On my Downriver travels the last couple of weekends, I noticed that the parking lot of the Trolley Stop has been empty. Today I go by and I think there was some sort of for-sale sign plastered over their message board on their sign. Checking on their website they state that Rock City will be taking it's place.

Can't say I've ever been in TTS. They had some surprisingly well-known bands a few times, more than likely due to a connection with 89X. Maybe I'll take a wander in there when it reopens.

As for the stop lights, has anyone seen them stringing up new ones in Allen Park? It looks like it's happenening mainly on Southfield Road. Now I can see if the old ones were busted up and such, but they weren't. They're just placing them at different angles. Instead of being on a diagonal across the intersection, each direction has a string directly facing them on the other side of the intersection.

I do think this is the best position for lights and really does make them easier to see. However, after driving in other cities in Wisconsin where there are virtually no electric lines above ground, I think it shows how bad of a state things have gotten in this state. We can splurge for new lights at multiple intersections, and we can change their orientation, but we can't finish it and just put the damn things on poles and get rid of the wires. Make the area look a little nicer. Hell, I'd rather they spend more money properly timing the damn lights or fixing the roads than getting new signals.

More ramblings from The News Herald.

If any of you are at a loss over what to get that special someone on V-Day, here's an idea.

Also, I don't know how many of you are in Taylor high schools still, but here's some scholarship info if you're thinking about law enforcement.

And since Ace Packaging is such a big employer downriver, I thought I'd mention this, too. I know so many people that work/have worked there and this accident seems like it could have easily been avoided.

Did anyone see the new Taylor website. It's a trillion times better than the old one, plus they have a blog now. That struck my funny bone. Anyway, check it out here.

Oh, and apparently the Best Buy opened in Southland. I didn't know that...

Lisa Radtke's mom made a plea bargain. She'll be getting 15-30 years for 2nd degree murder and an extra 2 years for committing a felony with a firearm. The whole story is here.

I definitely don't think justice was served on this one. I'd like to know why they made the plea for second degree when it was very obviously premeditated.

Apparently there's a Moratorium in Taylor now.

I think this is probably a good thing. Any thoughts?

Know your status?

Today is World AIDS Day, I'll be downtown this morning at the big event raising awareness. "According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 39.5 million people living with HIV, including 2.3 million children, and during 2006 some 4.3 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35."

This afternoon I'm offering testing from 2 to 6 at my work. It's free, no needles are used, and no appointment is necessary. We offer anonymous testing, meaning you don't have to use your real name, and of course all information is kept confidential. The Taylor Teen Health Center is at 26650 Eureka Rd. Suite C-2 (in the Taylor Human Services Building between Beech Daly and Inkster, next to McDonalds), 734.942.2273 extension 5 for more info. The AIDS Hotline number is 1(800)872-AIDS for questions or for other testing sites.

I don't know if any of you guys are like me and flood your journals with song lyrics, but if so, you should join this community.

I made it mostly for myself, but it's turning out to be a pretty handy little lyric database.
